Massage During & After Cancer –
for Healing & Important Safety Tips!
Unfortunately we are all touched by the increasing numbers of people being diagnosed with Cancer, going through treatment, or having lost the battle. But did you know that there is a special form of massage that can make the journey easier and support the body’s innate healing abilities during and after cancer? And perhaps even more important –there are valuable tips to follow to reduce the risk of Lymphedema* after cancer treatment – even many years later.
“Oncology Massage” is a specialty where the massage therapists are trained in the treatments of cancer, side-effects, risks, and how to safely support someone in their journey to optimal health and wellness. Studies have shown that 20 to 53% of cancer patients are using massage therapy to improve their quality of life and that it provides relief from side-effects of cancer treatments.
Oncology Massage also offers benefits for ones emotional wellbeing. Massage can provide much needed nurturing and compassionate touch as a supportive addition to medical treatments and procedures that can be invasive. Massage brings nurturing, connection, relief, and a greater sense of wholeness between body, mind, and spirit.

*Lymphedema is swelling and enlargement of an arm or leg and is irreversible if people don’t understand the risks and get support sooner than later. (Anyone with a lymph node removed through surgery or radiation treatment may be at risk – even years after treatment.) Many doctors are not aware of the risks let alone private massage therapists or day spas. For example: deep tissue massage would never be advised for a limb at risk.
